The following items are links and ideas for obtaining writing support while a student at the UW School of Nursing. Graduate students, please expect and budget for hiring an editor while in-program, especially if you are a student for whom English is a second language.

To assist with your writing, you may wish to utilize resources in one of the following areas:

Editors
Ask a School of Nursing faculty member for a referral.
Explore The Daily's classified advertisements 'Writing/Copy Editing' section for editors for hire.
Investigate hiring an editor through the UW Publication Services’ Creative Consultants Network.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Assistance
Consider the UW English as a Second Language program.
Utilize Resources for ESL students.

References
Confirm word pronunciation at the Merriam-Webster Dictionary site.
Get grammar help from The American Heritage® Book of English Usage, or from Ask Betty: Grammar for College Writers.
Refer often to the definition of plagiarism and how to avoid plagiarism.
Use Roget's Thesaurus Online

Style Guides
Reference the APA format at the Healthlinks' Style Guides site.
Get style guidance tips from the APA.
If you are considering submitting an article for publication, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
Explore a variety of citation styles for research papers.

Writing Assistance
Writing services are available to students at the UW Writing Centers
Develop a peer group to review your writing. Finding a few friends with whom you can share your writing (and whose writing you are willing to review and critique) is a way to promote collegial relations while improving your writing;
Other excellent writing guides are the Purdue Online Writing Lab, and the University of Richmond Writer's Web.
UW writing tutors are available at the Odegaard Writing & Research Center.
