Support Citizens of the World!

The Citizens of the World Scholar Travel Award encourages and assists students currently enrolled in a degree program at the University of Washington School of Nursing to seek experiences of immersion in health care and society in a culture very different from their own. A top priority is international health, but cross-cultural work in this country also qualifies for this support.

The Citizens of the World Scholar Travel Award supports experiences that extend significantly beyond course requirements. Citizens of the World Scholar Travel Award funding may be used for travel for those experiences. Students arrange their own accommodations, establish a relationship with a sponsor, formulate a plan for learning, and cover additional expenses of their one-to three-month stays.

The award was named Citizens of the World in reference to a Seattle child's painting that was placed in Sister City Tashkent, Uzbekistan, reading "We are citizens of the world." Several students each year earn the additional honor of being named Hegyvary Citizens of the World Scholars in reference to Dean Emeritus Sue T. Hegyvary, who implemented the award as an outgrowth of multiple interests and opportunities within the School.
