Latest updates:
January interviews
Posted: Tue, 16 Dec 2008 11:51:45 PST by Dora Wang
Applicants who are coming to the School of Nursing for an interview in January may be interested in the following information:
-Applicants will be interviewed in groups of four or five by a group of three faculty.
-You will be asked to respond to questions both individually, and also as a group.
-Applicants will be evaluated on qualities such as: ability to answer questions clearly and within the structure of the question, and collaboration with group of peers during group interaction.
-A sample individual question: "Give three ways that you'll manage your time in GEPN, considering that you'll likely spend 65 hours per week with class related activities."
-The group question will involve a health care scenario that you will respond to as hypothetical nurses, or nursing students.
As you can see, the interview is not intended as a place to review an applicant's academic background, resume or other application materials, etc. These qualifications were evaluated during the application review. The interview is intended to allow faculty to observe and evaluate aspects of an applicant that are not available through the application alone.

I apologize for the error in the previous entry. The date by which you should receive any mailed notifications is Friday, December 19.
If you are concerned about your admissions notification reaching you, please double-check the contact information you have listed in our online Graduate School application. The School of Nursing uses the email address and current mailing address listed here for contacting applicants.
Interview invitations
Posted: Fri, 12 Dec 2008 10:17:52 PST by Dora Wang
Notifications of application status are being sent out by email and postal mail. Please check your email and mailboxes, and contact the School of Nursing if you have not received any notice from us by Friday, December 12.
Over 50 applicants are being invited to participate in interviews during the first week of January. These applicants were selected as the most competitive by the degree and specialty review committees. The remaining applicants are not being offered admission to the program this year.
Following the interviews, applicants' interview scores will be combined with the review committee scores to determine the final admissions decisions. Notification of these decisions will be given in late January or early February.
Clarification about application status
Posted: Fri, 14 Nov 2008 15:41:05 PST by Dora Wang
Just a clarification about the status listed on the online application: the place to look is at the top of the application page, where it will be indicated whether the application has been marked as complete by the department.
Individual pieces of the application, such as transcripts or the criminal background check, are not being tracked electronically. Please disregard these reports, which remain on the default "incomplete" for all applicants.
Checking application status
Posted: Thu, 13 Nov 2008 15:22:20 PST by Dora Wang
You should now be able to check the completion status of your application by logging in to your online application profile. Select your GEPN application, and at the top of the page you can see whether your application has been marked as "complete" by the department.
Complete applications were received by the School of Nursing by the deadline (5:00 p.m. on October 15). All components needed to be present by the deadline. However, in consideration of the fact that letters of recommendation are not entirely under an applicant's control, and that this is the first year that the GEPN application has utilized online letters of recommendation, we allowed for some leeway. Late letters of recommendation were accepted, up until the time the applications began undergoing review (Monday, October 20).
Applications that are not marked as complete either did not arrive by the deadline, or were missing required components. This includes applications whose letters of recommendation never arrived, or did not arrive before the 20th. These applications are not undergoing further review.
For those applicants whose applications are marked incomplete, we will not be taking further action on your application. In consideration of the ongoing application review process, please refrain from contacting the School of Nursing until after this year's admissions is complete, in February 2009. As previously stated, we are currently not responding to inquiries about individual applications.
Announcements for the GEPN program
Posted: Wed, 5 Nov 2008 10:59:35 PST by Dora Wang
We have two exciting announcements about the GEPN program that are not part of the admissions process, but which we thought you would also be interested to hear:
The School of Nursing has received approval from the University to grant the Bachelor of Science in Nursing to students upon completion of the first five quarters of the GEPN program. Previously, after completing this pre-licensure portion of the program, students have earned BSN equivalency, but not the degree itself.
We are also pleased to announce that we will be offering 8 Robert Wood Johnson Scholarships to GEPN students this coming year, which will award them $10,000 each toward GEPN tuition. Once applicants are accepted to the program, they will receive further information on how to apply for this scholarship.

-Once faculty evaluations are complete, applications will be ranked and the applicants with top scores will be invited to be interviewed.
-Interviews will occur in early January.
-Final evaluations will be made in late January, with official admissions decisions being sent by early February.
Please make sure to keep your contact information updated with us, so that we can reach you in a timely manner.
Preliminary application information
Posted: Tue, 21 Oct 2008 10:53:37 PST by Dora Wang
The October 15 deadline has passed and we have completed the initial processing of applications. This year, we received 131 applications to the GEPN program.
Within the next couple of days, applications that were complete and in our office by the deadline will be marked as complete on the Graduate School online application profiles. Please keep in mind that the high volume of applications we have means that we will not respond to inquiries about individual applications.
After an initial screening, those applications which meet the minimum admission requirements will be sent for review by the specialty admissions committees.
