The UW School of Nursing currently offers Technology Enhanced and Distance Learning (TEDL) options for select graduate courses and focal areas/specialties. All focal areas have some on-campus requirements, which vary by focal area/specialty. You can view a sample course grid of TEDL delivery methods - check with each focal area/specialty in the MN, MS, DNP and certificate programs for specific details about TEDL support or questions regarding clinical rotations (if applicable). Currently, the BSN and PhD programs do not offer distance learning support.

As a TEDL student, your UW transcript, degree, tuition and financial aid will be identical to students who study on campus; your transcript will not indicate which courses were taken with TEDL support.

To be a successful TEDL student, you should:

  • consider your learning style, strengths and preferences. Are you self-motivated? Do you work well independently?
  • understand TEDL requires as much time as on-campus courses (e.g. attending lectures/class participation, completing assignments).
  • be adept at using computers, including e-mail and other electronic media.
  • have a computer that meets our system requirements, as well as a high-speed internet connection

TEDL Delivery Methods
Course Web Sites

Serving as course home and meeting points for students, course web sites include links to syllabi, readings/electronic reserves, instructional content, as well as meeting and discussion "rooms."

Video Stream

Videotaped lectures are available for viewing via your computer. Accessed through course web site pages, the video-streamed lecture can be viewed at your convenience within 24-48 hours following the live lecture.

Video Conference

Join classes live from rural and remote locations via video conferencing (VC). We have two state-of-the-art VC classrooms available for transmission of classes. Students at remote sites can interact with course instructors and classmates in real time.

Web Conference

Web conferencing technology allows you to electronically "sit-in" on a live lecture via your computer and web browser. While viewing/listening to a class session, you can interact with the instructor in real time via chat rooms, audio, or video.

If you have questions about distance learning options, you can submit an online request or e-mail sondl at u dot washington dot edu.
